Young Queensland karting star, Jordan Lloyd, has signed for Evans Motorsport Group to contest the 2011 Victorian Formula Ford Championship.

Jordan has been competing in the Queensland Formula Ford Championship this year in an older car, and will be looking to take the next step when he campaigns the race winning Mygale currently used by standout Evans Young Guns rookie Mathew Hart.

‘’I’m really looking forward to making the next step and working with a professional team such as Evans Motorsport Group. My dad and I have been running an old kent powered Van Dieman out of our garage at home in Toowoomba this year. And while it has served me well in my first year of car racing and I have learnt a lot, we knew that to progress my career I had to go with a strong team.’’

‘’My ambition is to progress my career to Europe and follow in the footsteps of drivers such as Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo. Josh and his team have similar goals in expanding into Europe so we’ll be looking to move forward together.’’

Team owner Joshua Evans is equally looking forward to working with the talented 14 year old.

‘’From our first phone conversations I could see that we were on the same wave-length with our ideas and that we would quickly agree to a deal. We’ve seen Jordan’s past results in both karting and his limited car racing career and we knew this was a guy that would fit in well at the team.’’

‘’He has quite a strong karting record which includes state title wins, competing against drivers such as Australian Formula Ford driver Cameron Waters. Both of our ‘Evans Young Guns’; Mathew Hart and Andre Heimgartner have won races and rounds in their Formula Ford debut year – we’ll be looking to progress Jordan through this program with similar success.‘’

Along with the complete 2011 Victorian State Championship and related testing program, Jordan will compete in a couple of Australian Formula Ford Championship events towards the end of 2011.

Who is Joshua Evans?

After being an integral part of the Australian Formula Ford championship years of Tim Blanchard, David Reynolds, Dean Fiore and Nick Percat, Josh moved overseas to further his career.

He engineered Formula BMW and F3 cars in Asia, Formula Ford, Formula Renault and Formula Superleague in the United Kingdom, and worked with A1 Team Australia in 2006.
Josh is now solidly based in Melbourne Australia with a view to winning the Australian and Victorian Formula Ford championships.

His team is now currently gearing up for championship assaults in 2011. Potential drivers and partners interested in winning with us can make contact via our web site; www.evansmotorsport.com.au or via email; joshuawevans@hotmail.com

Another Driver, Another Podium in Townsville

Another Driver, Another Podium in Townsville

Kiwi sensation, Nick Cassidy, has kicked off his foray into Australian motorsport with a podium place on the streets of Townsville. Despite having never driven a Mygale or Duratec-powered car before the race weekend, the 15year old put in a sterling drive in the final race to finish a strong 3rd – setting the second fastest lap in the process.

The Auckland-native impressed right throughout the weekend, improving his times in every session and improving his finishing position in each race.

‘’What a dream debut! We knew it was going to be pretty tough going up against the high level of competition over here without any testing. So to come away with a podium and having genuine front-running pace is extremely encouraging’’ said Nick

‘’Working with the team and my engineer, Gerard, has been really beneficial to myself as it has identified some areas that I can further improve and we’ve already seen good progress made here. We’ve got a testing program in place over the coming months and with this in place I’m sure we’ll be in a position to fight for race and round victories.’’

Andre Borell had a less successful weekend driving his Simpro/Master Electricians Mygale. Unfortunately he has been unable to repeat his front-running form which he demonstrated at Queensland Raceway earlier in the season.

Andre, who is also representing Australia at the Triathlon World Cup in Hungary in September, did show glimpses of what he is capable of, running as high as 5th place in the final race. However his bad luck continued when he was taken out from behind at the final corner of the last lap.

‘’Not the best race meeting I’ve had this year. It all went a bit pear-shaped when we bent a roll bar after hitting one of Townsville’s massive kerbs in Qualifying. That put me back in the pack for the races, and it’s always difficult to recover from there with the competition the way it is this year’’.

Evans Motorsport Group team boss Joshua Evans was overall satisfied with the results of the weekend, but was looking forward to doing some development testing in the coming weeks.

‘’Overall it wasn’t a bad weekend. Obviously Nick has demonstrated he is a star of the future. Not only did he prove his ability inside the cockpit with a fine 3rd place with no testing, he and Gerard (his engineer) developed a good working relationship which will in turn push forward our vehicle development and set-up configurations. We all look forward to working with him in the future’’.

‘’Unfortunately Andre endured another tough weekend of racing. We know he is capable of better results; it’s just a case of working on a couple weaknesses. We’ve got quite an intense testing program for him once his triathlon commitments are completed in Hungary this September. He is currently the only Evans Motorsport Group driver not to have stood on the podium, We’re sure this will be rectified by seasons end.’’

The Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship takes a mid season break, with competition resuming at Surfers Paradise on October 22-24.

Nick Cassidy signs for Evans Motorsport Group

Nick Cassidy signs for Evans Motorsport Group

The 2008-2009 NZ SpeedSport Scholarship winner, Nick Cassidy, is to make his Australian Formula Ford debut when he competes in the Townsville V8 Supercar support events with Evans Motorsport Group.

The kiwi sensation, who at just 15 is the youngest driver in the field, will take over the reins of the Mygale SJ10a that has powered Adam Graham to multiple front row starts and podium finishes this year.

Graham, a regular top three runner, has unfortunately been forced to sit out the Townsville event due to budgetary restraints. He will be looking to re-launch his campaign in one of Evans Motorsport Groups Mygales at the Gold Coast round of the championship.

For young Nick though, he will be looking to follow in the footsteps of fellow Kiwi Scholarship winners, Shane van Gisbergen (04-05) and Richie Stanaway (07-08) a long with 2009 championship runner-up Mitch Evans.

“I’m excited to be competing with Evans Motorsport Group, I’ve been keeping a close eye on their results so far this year and it’s been quite impressive for a new team. I’ve also got to give a huge thank you to my sponsors for enabling me to take up this opportunity to compete in Australia. Fuchs Lubricants, Australian Clutch, IDL and BNT have been instrumental in my career so far – I certainly couldn’t do it without them.

“Josh and I were close to inking a deal at the start of this season; however I had to undergo surgery to my legs so it wasn’t possible. I’m now 100% fully fit and really looking forward to driving the Mygale Duratec in this highly competitive series.” said Cassidy.

Although Nick has not competed in Australia, nor experienced the extra power of the Duratec engine, or driven a Mygale chassis, the team believe he will quickly be up to speed.

“I don’t think it will take him long to get familiar with his new machinery and surrounding’’ said team boss Josh Evans. “Although he will be the youngest driver in the field, he has already demonstrated to us that he is quite mature and level-headed. Both of our ‘Young Guns’ Andre Heimgartner (14) and Mathew Hart (15), won on their debuts in the Victorian State Championship, so we believe we’ll be able to get him up to speed reasonably quickly.

“The whole team is excited to be working with someone who we believe is a star in the making. We will be looking to forge a close working relationship, with the view of working together into the future.”

Quick Facts about Nick Cassidy:

Borell Impresses at Round 2

Borell Impresses at Round 2

Andre Borell has put his Master Electricians / simPRO Racing Mygale firmly in contention for the 2010 Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship, after round 2 at Queensland Raceway on May 1st and 2nd. Borell finished the weekend equal 5th, and was happy to take two Top-5 finishes on Sunday after a solid 6th in Race 1 on Saturday.

Andre is content sitting 6th in the Championship chase after two rounds, and knows very well that by being only 26 points behind the new leader Nick Foster – anything is still possible. “There is a long way to go, and anything can – and probably will, happen. It’s a nine-horse race at the moment. That will no doubt boil down as the season goes on, but clearly no-one is going to dominate like Percat did last year and we could see it come down to three or four guys by the final round. I just want to stay in the hunt and be a part of that at the end” said a level-headed Borell.

Andre was one of the many front-runners to test a week prior to the Queensland event, however struggled with pace at the State Formula Ford race “I wasn’t too optimistic heading into the National weekend as we were a bit off at the state round. I think as the V8 rubber went down we got a bit stronger, and I think we were as quick as anyone come race day. Had the cards fallen a little differently we could have been on the podium. We tested at Winton on Friday, and again we’re a bit off if I’m honest. Hopefully the track comes towards our car again this weekend”. Andre is of course referring to Round 3 to be held this weekend at Winton Motor Raceway in country Victoria.

Andre appears happy at his new Evans Motorsport home, with the close knit outfit working well together already, and he gave the following insight into his new surrounds: “I probably thought it would take us a bit longer to get up the front, but we’re there now and our car is every bit as good as the other guys when we get the sweet spot. I’ve been learning heaps from my engineer Gerard – he’s a bit of a guru. It’s nice to have someone switched on like that to work with, last year I was my own data engineer which makes things a bit harder! My team mate (Adam Graham) is no slouch either and I think we are both always pushing each other along whilst still working together at the same time. It’s all good at the moment, and we’re only going to get stronger”.

You can catch all the highlights from Round 2 and 3 on new digital channel ‘7TWO’ on May 29 at 2:30pm. Check your local guides for confirmation.

Andre is supported in 2010 by Master Electricians, simPRO, HPM Legrand, Extreme Safety, Speedo, Yellow Jersey, Giant, Xtreme Racing and Mediaglue. For more information contact Andre directly on andre@andreborellmotorsport.com

Borell Australia’s Fittest Formula Ford ‘ster

Borell Australia’s Fittest Formula Ford ‘ster

Andre Borell, the pilot of the #5 Master Electricians / simPRO Racing Mygale in this year’s Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship, has just proved he is the fittest and most dedicated Formula Ford driver on the grid this year by being chosen to represent Australia in the gruelling sport of Triathlon.

There has been some considerable attention on the 22-year-old’s extra-curricular Triathlon activities over the past few months, and one would be excused for thinking it’s all just a bit of propaganda. Well, the Triathlon Australia selectors don’t think so, picking Andre to be a part of the World Cup team to head to Budapest, Hungary this September and represent Australia. Borell shared his excitement at being named on the team: “I’m pumped; representing your country is always something you dream of as a kid. You can’t do it in motorsport, so being selected to do it in my first full year competing in Triathlon is pretty amazing and somewhat surprising. I’m going to go there to enjoy the experience, learn from the Pro’s, and see how I go”.

When asked if the sport came easy to him, Andre was quick to point out that Triathlon isn’t a discipline where anything comes easy: “No way, you bust your balls to get to the level I’m at now, and there is still a long way to go to be up there with the best. The press release that the team put out with all my training stats before the Grand Prix sums it up really – it’s a massive amount of training and hard work, I’d be lying if I said it was easy”.

Andre also competed in the Grand Final of the Queensland Tri Series at the weekend, where he defended his series lead and wrapped up the prestigious title. His next Formula Ford bout will be on April 30 – May 2 at Round 2 of the Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship, a round that coincides with the soon-to-be 23 year olds Birthday. Andre says he only wants one thing for his Birthday: a race win. With the round being held at Queensland Raceway, the Ipswich residents home track, he may just be in with a shot of getting his birthday wish.

Andre is supported in 2010 by Master Electricians, simPRO, HPM Legrand, Extreme Safety, Speedo, Yellow Jersey, Giant, Xtreme Racing and Mediaglue. For more information contact Andre directly on andre@andreborellmotorsport.com
