Double Podium For Evans Motorsport

Evans Motorsport has continued its strong start to competition with a double podium at the L&H 500 event at Phillip Island. Team driver, Trent Harrison, having finished a career best of 4th at his last event at Sandown back in August, was looking to go better at his next event – and he did just that!

An altercation a backmarker in race 1 resulted in a DNF, so the young Victorian put his head down and produced two impressive drives. In race two, despite having to start back in 18th he worked his way up to 5th by the chequered flag. What made the result even more impressive was the fact that he lapped much faster, over 1 second, than all those in front of him.

Despite stepping off the track on the first lap of the final race, Trent put in a sterling drive and challenged for the victory. Again Trent lapped faster than those in front of him. However, in the end he did not have the straight-line speed to take the lead. Never-the-less Trent and the team were happy with their first podium finish.

‘’What a great way to end the weekend!’’ Harrison said. ‘’We had an unfortunate start, but we put our heads down and we walk away with our first podium! We were looking really strong for the final race, we were challenging pretty hard for the win. But in the end we just didn’t have the straight-line speed of the others to make the pass.’’

Evans Motorsport also provided engineering services to Formula Ford debutant Tom Williamson. And the partnership instantly produced strong results including winning the Best Presented Car Award, 3rd fastest in practice, and to top it all off, Tom finished in 3rd place for race two! All this at his first ever National Formula Ford race meeting.

Team owner Joshua Evans was equally pleased with the weekend’s results.

‘’To have another strong result in only our second national meeting is a credit to our crew, drivers and partners. We have finished ‘best-of-the-rest’, behind, and sometimes in front of Sonic, Synergy and Borland Racing Developments at both of our first two rounds which is quite an achievement, and we are determine to improve from here.’’

The team and drivers have taken the tough decision to not compete at the up-coming Nitro Super GP on the Gold Coast. The team will instead focus its financial resources on a comprehensive engine development program to reduce the straight-line deficiency to the front three teams.

Greg Woodrow, the man behind Mygale says, “Evans Motorsport has been a revelation in Australian Formula Ford. The results achieved in their first two race meetings have been astounding. I believe that this team will, without doubt, be a force in the 2010 AFFC”
