Evans Young Guns Squad Announced

Evans Motorsport Group is thrilled to announce its line up for the inaugural Evans Young Guns squad following the signing of 14-year-old New Zealand Formula Ford front-runner Andre Heimgartner along with 15-year-old karting sensation Mathew Hart.

They will campaign a pair of the highly successful Mygale SJ08a chassis in the six round Victorian Formula Ford Championship as well as selected events of the Ford Genuine Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship.

Andre Heimgartner, from Auckland, is currently competing in his first season of the ultra competitive New Zealand Formula Ford Championship and has already registered a number of strong performances – including front row qualifying positions and podium places. Prior to this campaign he successfully competed in the New Zealand Winter Series. 2010 will mark his first taste of the more powerful Ford Duratec engine and he is looking forward to the challenge!

“I am happy to be joining Evans Motorsport Group and its Young Guns squad,” said the young Kiwi. “The team was one of the top operations in 2009 and they are determined to be the best in 2010. Although I don’t have a lot of experience in cars just yet, I know I’ll have the right people around me to help me develop my skills and experience. I’m sure we’ll be able to challenge for victories throughout the year!”

Canberra-native Mathew Hart has a Karting CV that very few can match. His motorsport career so far includes a record number of Australian State Karting Title wins – amassing to a total of fifteen. Now, coming off the back of two very successful test days with the team, Mathew will be taking the reins of an Evans Young Guns Mygale for his first season of car racing.

“After my two test days with the team I knew I had to make the step up to Formula Ford. 2010 is going to be all about learning for me – learning how to drive cars and set them up, learning lots of new tracks and learning a new form of race-craft. It’s also going to be a new experience in working with the team and its engineers in improving the car and my driving techniques. We’ve already developed a strong relationship with them and I’m sure this will see us go from strength-to-strength as the season progresses. I simply can’t wait!”

Team principal Joshua Evans says his team is in no doubt about both drivers’ potential and is looking forward to creating a long and successful partnership.

“Andre and Mathew are two talented drivers and I’m certain their names will become well known in motorsport in the future. The potential they have already demonstrated so far in their young careers has the team really excited about a strong campaign in the Victorian Formula Ford Championship. ”

Evans Motorsport Group was a new entry in Formula Ford in 2009 and contested two Mygale SJ08a chassis at the Sandown and Phillip Island rounds of the 2009 Australian Formula Ford Championship – finishing 4th at Sandown and achieving two 3rd place finishes at Phillip Island.

“The team and I truly believe we have an excellent platform to build on and move forward on our strong 2009 performances. I’ve had the privilege to work with a number of Formula Ford champions in the past and I am looking forward to assisting in the development of many more.”
