Season 2010 already underway for Andre Borell
The season opening race of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship, held at the Melbourne Formula 1TM Grand Prix, may still be over two months away – but for Andre Borell and simPRO Master Electricians Racing, the preparations are well and truly underway.
With Evans Motorsport running his #87 entry for season 2010, and a brand new Mygale just off the plane from France, Andre has taken the ‘off season’ as an opportunity to work on his fitness. There were no Beers or Christmas puddings to be had over the break at the Borell household:
“I’ve been very well behaved! I’ve been training hard too, I’m doing a few hundred kilometres on the bike every week, as well as some intense run and swim sessions. I want driving a Formula Ford for a 15-lap race to be a piece of cake this season. I’ve been training with (Ash) Walsh a fair bit, it’s good to train with someone who has the same interests and also goals as you”.
Andre proved he can walk the walk Fitness wise when he took on some of the country’s best Triathletes at the ACT Triathlon Championships in Canberra last weekend – finishing a credible fourth, but as always he strived higher: “I was hoping to win really, but just had a bad race. I’m going to refine some of my training techniques and get a lot more scientific in my approach to try and find that last little bit of performance I’m missing. It’s not enough now just to train hard, that comes easy to me, now I need to train smart” said Borell.
On a less serious note – Andre is also at the moment trying to find a suitable name for his brand new Mygale SJ10a. Naming his cars is something that Andre has always done, since stepping up to Formula Ford in 2007.
Andre explains: “So far I’ve had three race cars: Stef, Angelina and Britney. The names all have a reason behind them, now I need a name that suits the beautiful new Mygale waiting for me at Evans HQ. I think I’ll need to wait until I see her in the flesh to pick one”.
Formula 1 star Sebastian Vettel has popularised the notion of naming race cars, famously calling his 2009 Red Bull Racer ‘Kate’s Dirty Sister’.
Andre is supported in 2010 by Master Electricians, simPRO, Extreme Safety, Speedo, Yellow Jersey, Xtreme Racing and Mediaglue. For more information or images, please contact Andre directly by email at andre@andreborellmotorsport.com
