Evans Young Guns fire the first shot of 2010
Evans Motorsport Group Young Guns Mathew Hart and Andre Heimgartner made impressive starts to their 2010 campaigns by claiming 1st and 2nd at Round One of the Victorian Formula Ford Series at Winton Raceway.
Hart (15), who was making his racing car debut, drove like a seasoned professional. In drying conditions he qualified his Evans Mygale in an incredible 3rd position. Then in the Sunday morning race he scored his first podium position with a 3rd (including fastest lap by more than 6 tenths), before claiming the feature race victory in the afternoon – finishing almost 10 seconds in front of the first non-Evans Motorsport Group vehicle. Considering this was his first ever car racing event, Mathew and the rest of the team are looking for even great success in the future.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better debut into Formula Ford, it feels awesome to take the win and I’m just so grateful for everything the team at Evans Motorsport have done to put me in this position” said an elated Mathew.

Andre Heimgartner, the youngest driver in the field, (14) had an equally successful debut – despite it being his first race event with the powerful Ford Duratec engine, and his first time racing outside of New Zealand. After leading the majority of the Sunday morning race, Andre focussed on the points and finished in a strong 2ndposition, he then backed up this fine performance in the Midday race with another 2nd place. In the final race of the weekend, the young Kiwi sensation put on an utterly dominate display – leading every lap of the race – taking the victory in front of a number of highly experienced drivers.
“What a great start to the year! Taking the final win of the weekend really does give me a lot of confidence heading into the next event. We made some good improvements over the weekend both with the car and also in myself, so we’ll be looking to carry that in Phillip Island” said the Superlux backed driver.
Team Owner, Joshua Evans was pleased with the outfits’ first event of the year. ‘’Obviously I am quite happy with how things went. Andre, Mathew and the rest of the team all did extremely good jobs throughout the entire weekend. Of the Victoria circuits, we felt Winton would probably be our weakest, so to come away with 1st and 2nd for the weekend is highly encouraging – it certainly bodes well for the future.’’
