Another driver, Another Podium for Evans Again!
Evans Motorsport Group drivers put in yet another strong performance at the latest round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Symmons Plains last weekend. The event saw Trent Harrison, competing in only his second event this year, finish 3rd for the weekend. On the back of Trent’s impressive drive, there was the series debut of Evans Young Gun Mathew Hart, putting in three stunning drives to finish 6th overall.
Trent who had never raced at Symmons Plains before didn’t waste much time getting up to speed, qualifying just 2 tenths off pole and finishing in the top four in every race.
‘’What a great weekend! I’ve been out of the race seat for so long, but I’ve really got a lot of confidence in this car and the team around me. I’ve only done two events but I’m already 8th in the championship so that’s quite satisfying’’ Said Trent
‘’I can’t wait for Sandown this weekend, it’s a track that I really enjoy and the racing is always pretty intense. This Mygale is certainly the best Formula Ford I’ve ever driven so I enter the weekend with a lot of confidence’’.
Evans Young Gun Mathew Hart put in a highly impressive performance in what was his first taste of National Formula Ford competition. His qualifying performance saw him just 4 tenths off pole position, the effort highlighted when compared to the debut of past Formula Ford stars (Chaz Mostert 2.1 off pole, Ash Walsh 0.6, Will Power 1.7, David Reynolds 2.8, etc) . He followed this up with three great drives including two 5th places.
‘’I didn’t really know what to expect coming into my first national event. My goal before the weekend was to improve in myself over the event. It was certainly a lot more competitive than state racing, but for my debut I’m very happy. For me the highlights were race two and three. In race two I was slightly tapped by a competitor on the first lap which turned me into a spin. However I just put my head down and worked my way back up to 5th place. Said the Canberra native.
‘’ Then in the final race I was in a hard fought battle with Walsh and Mostert, I have a lot of respect for those two guys so to be fighting with them on my national debut was rewarding. It was also encouraging to learn that I was the fastest car through the final sector in race three. I’ve certainly learnt a lot from the experience and will be looking to go even better this weekend at Sandown!’’
Andre Borell had a less successful weekend driving his Simpro/Master Electricians Mygale. Andre has been unable to repeat his front-running form which he demonstrated at Queensland Raceway earlier in the season but he’ll be looking to finish the year on a high this weekend.
Evans Motorsport Group team boss Joshua Evans was overall satisfied with the results of the weekend,
‘’The guys did a great job over the weekend. Trent has shown he has the talent to run and the front and I believe if he had been running since the start of the year, like his competitors, the results would be even stronger. Mathew has shown a very mature approach for someone so young. His debut is probably the strongest I’ve seen from someone in this championship, so this bodes well for the future. He is improving all the time and with more hard work and racing experience at this level, he’ll be competing at the very front – I have no doubt.
