Borell is Back!
Andre Borell may have dropped off the sporting radar somewhat lately, but the Ipswich resident will make his motor racing return next week at Queensland Raceway, reacquainting himself with his 2010 Mygale and his Evans Motorsport team.
Even with no racing, Borell has been no less busy in 2011. Having decided to not compete in motorsport full-time this season, his time has been filled with various new ventures. Andre’s Triathlon ambitions continue to flourish, having been named as part of the Australian squad for a second successive year. He will head to Beijing this September, and will be hoping to better his injury-plagued 17th place finish from 2010.
Borell has also stayed involved in motorsport, acting in a management role for former rival Ash Walsh this year. Andre is enjoying this new role, one that many people were already aware of “Anyone with a keen eye on the sponsors has already probably realised I was working behind the scenes there. It’s been good to get experience in that high end corporate part of the sport. I’m enjoying it.”
Borell has learnt a lot from being involved in the sport heavily this year, albeit on the other side of the pitwall. He feels he has gained a much better understanding of how to successfully compete at the top level, and looks forward to putting this into practice this weekend. Andre said this of this time off “I have learnt some things about driving that I wish I knew last year. Working with Ash and Chaz closely at Miles Racing, as well as spending a fair bit of time on iRacing, has been great for me as a driver. No doubt I’ll be rusty to start the weekend, but I think I’ll be a better driver than last year once I get into the groove.”
Andre will race at the Ipswich 300 at Queensland Raceway this weekend with backing from 2009/10 sponsors Master Electricians and simPRO Software, but will also carry ‘A Metre Matters’ branding to promote the Amy Gillett Foundation, who work to improve cyclist road safety. This comes as a result of three fellow Ipswich Cycling Club members being killed in car-bike accidents in the last three months.
Andre would like to thank Master Electricians and also simPRO Software for donating their usual signage space to this worthwhile and vital cause.
One thing remains certain, Andre Borell is still undecided on his 2012 motor racing plans. Details will be announced on his plans as soon as they are known.
Andre is supported in 2011 by Master Electricians, simPRO, Extreme Safety, Speedo, Yellow Jersey, Trek, Xtreme Racing. For more information contact Andre directly on andreborell@hotmail.com
