Evans Motorsport Group 1-2 at Winton
Evans Motorsport Group’s new signing Jesse Fenech got off to the perfect start last weekend dominating all three races at Round 5 of the Victorian Formula Ford Championship at Winton Raceway.
The young Victorian led home his Evans Motorsport Group teammate Jordan Lloyd in all three races capping off a near perfect weekend for the team. Jesses’ and Jordan’s domination was highlighted by their lap speed, often a second faster than their nearest competitors.
Despite it being his first outing with the team, and the Mygale chassis, Jesse found himself comfortable in his new environment. “What a great debut, it couldn’t have been much better! We were basically using the weekend for me to get used to the car and working with the engineers – and we seem to have clicked straightaway! I’m still getting used to the car as it is quite different to what I am used to, and I’m really happy with the progress we’re making.”

Following on from his strong form at the recent National Round at Queensland Raceway, 15 year old Jordan Lloyd continued to impress with his speed across the weekend. This was highlighted by being fastest in practice and qualifying on the front row (just 0.06 off pole). He crossed the line 2nd in all three races across the weekend, but was unfortunately given a 15sec penalty in the final race for an alleged jump start. This was the only blemish in an otherwise positive weekend for the young Queenslander.
“Just like the Queensland national round I come away with mixed emotions” said the rookie. “It was great to work with Jesse over the weekend and encouraging that we were so even in terms of outright pace. Although he is still a rookie at national level, he has a bit more experience than me and over the coming events I’ll be able to learn from him”
Evans Motorsport Group boss was happy with the near perfect weekend. “A great weekend for the team and a great debut for our new signing; Jesse Fenech. The way he worked with the engineers and conducted himself over the weekend was first class; he certainly knows how to win races. Jordan also had a very good weekend and continues to improve each time he gets in the car. Unfortunately he made a slight error in the final race and I’m sure he will learn from this. He has the hard bit right – he’s quick.”
The team now look forward to the next rounds of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sandown Raceway and Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, where Jordan and Jesse will be looking to keeping building on their current form.
