Young Victorian Formula Ford racer Thomas Randle will make his national series debut in the next round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Townsville this weekend.
The highly credentialed karter, who has just three Victorian State Championship meetings under his belt, will step up to the national series in his Mygale SJ13a chassis and despite his lack of experience hopes to fight for podium positions around the unforgiving Townsville track.
Randle, who is running under the guidance of the Evans Motorsport Group in the Victorian Series, has already taken two race victories and a pole position in his limited outings and has shown excellent pace at all rounds despite it being his debut season in the junior open-wheeler category.
"We're definitely treating it as a learning experience but that doesn't mean we don't expect to be competitive," Randle said.
"We've had some good results in the Victorian Championship and had a couple of race wins so we thought it was a good time to test ourselves at the national level.
"It's a good chance to get some more experience on a different circuit and will help us make up our mind on our program for 2014."
Randle is a two-time Australian Karting Champion and the son of Sports Sedan racer Dean. The second-generation racer has travelled the globe in pursuit of karting glory. He was among the fastest drivers in his class at the Rotax Max World Finals in Portugal last year before stepping up to the Formula Ford ranks this year.
